This article details how challenges associated with aging can negatively impact the behavioral health of older adults, the prevalence of these behavioral health conditions, and additional challenges related to older adults with medical comorbidities. Key systemic challenges include an inadequate behavioral health workforce, lack of available services, stigma, and a fragmented system of care. Strategies to address these barriers, including integrated care services and delivery of telemedicine, are described.
